It's official that...
1. ...Baby Watch is on!
and
2. ...my husband is country.
When I was at my appointment last week, Dr. E. told me I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. So the ball is rolling!! (Of course, I know I could sit like that for a month...) After I told Mike about it, I overheard him on the phone...
Mike: Yeah, Katie's 1 cm dilated, and the Baby is effacing.
Me (whispering clarification in the background): No! My CERVIX is effacing, not the BABY.
Mike (covering the phone and whispering back to me): I was just meaning the Baby is a-facin' down.
Nice try! Hahaha!
I picked up my new diaper bag the other day at Merle Norman. It's the Vera Bradley baby bag. I looove it! It has lots of pockets on the inside and outside, and it comes with a coordinating changing mat (although, even with a mat, I never could bring myself to use public changing areas...I always put Amelia on my lap). I want to get a cute ID tag to hang on it once I meet my new baby and name him or her.
I pulled out Amelia's Baby Legs to put on the baby under the coming home gown. All of hers, of course, are girly, but I do have one solid white pair.
Other than getting packed up, I've been moving Amelia's clothes and belongings into her new big girl closet.
I finished tagging her baskets to organize some of her things, including one for "Big Girl Toys" to hold things like play dough and markers so that we won't have any more of this type of thing...
I put some of Miss Amelia's toys on the bottom shelf so she can help herself to, say, her Rizzo Barbie doll. (How do you like that rat's nest in the back of her hair? We have one every morning. Sometimes, it's more of a rooster tail.)
I've also been working on some matching appliqued onesies for Amelia and the baby with some new pink and blue fabrics.
I use this stuff above, called "Steam-A-Seam" and a tube of "Fray Block" to keep the edges from unraveling. These products are really super-easy to use. I put the things I make in the washing machine (no dryer, of course) and I've never had any trouble at all with them.
Today, I'm going to play around with the fun stitches on my new sewing machine.
Several people had asked about the iron-on letters I mentioned a few posts back. I get mine at Hobby Lobby, but I've seen them at Joann's and other craft stores. They are ridiculously easy to use and very inexpensive. Of course, I wouldn't use it on something I wanted to look REALLY NICE, but on play outfits, etc., it works! :o)

Great job on her closet. I just love the color - it looks so bright and cheerful!

Yea for the progress! I can't wait to see what you have and what the name will be. I'm sure it will darling just like Amelia.
Her closet looks great! And that diaper bag is sooooo cute!

I have to get those letters!!!! I'd run there barefoot right now with Libby stuck nursing on me and a chicken nugget smushed on my foot, LOL!
LOVE the baskets in A's closet. So sweet and pretty. I love a white wicker basket. :o) And LOL at Mike! I almost spit out my coffee!

How special for Amelia to have her own shelf that she can reach, too! (Can you tell I'm a preschool teacher? LOL)
I love the appliqued onesies. Those would make great gifts!
Good luck during your final days/weeks of pregnancy!

I'm so excited for you, take it easy these last few days! I've gotta tell ya, I had a patient in the ER once tell the doctor that his wife's "idiotic fluid" was leaking. I seriously had to leave the room. :)
I love everything you've done with Amelia's things, great job, she's a lucky little girl.

Funny!
I love it all - baby legs, closet organization, basket tags, applique letters.
I'm laughing about how indiscriminate I was about changing diapers compared to how conservative you are about it!
I'm headed upstairs to put some toys on the bottom shelf in the children's closets. Awesome idea!!

Everything is just so perfect, you are definately a great "nester". I laughed so hard at Mike! So funny!
Her closet looks great, I love my little girls closet more than she does, I love to "play" in there!
I was shopping this weekend and picked up a few little things for you, I will email you privately about it.
We are all so excited for you and can't wait for the big announcement!

OK...maybe I'm just a little too blonde, but how in the world do you cut out the appliques and make them look so nice? I can imagine trying to cut some out and they'd be crooked!! I have to know! I bought some fabric just for this.

Wow! So much energy! You are on the home stretch and going strong! Those first weeks of nausea and exhaustion are likely a distant memory now ... you've accomplished so much! You're Amelia Kate has more clothes then my dd and I together! My sweet girl only wishes her mama liked shopping!
Quick Hint: I used to make it simple for my dh by making 'size discs' like the ones you see at the department stores. I made them out of pretty (or handsome) heavy paper using a small plate for a round template and scrapbook stickers to write the sizes. I separated the clothes into sizes so that my dh didn't put something too small or too big on the children when he was dressing them - before I did that he was always reaching to the left of the closet where the 'to grow into' sizes were or to the middle where the hand me downs were hung - once I marked them, he knew where to dress the children from! It took me ten minutes, but it made my life simpler since we could share the dressing tasks more evenly, I blessed my husband and our children didn't look like waifs every time he dressed them!

Good Luck with the count down!

"A'facin down!!!!"
I am laughing so hard! Sounds like something that would come out of my husband's mouth.
Hysterical!
As always, I adore all your cute ideas with the initials. The diaper bag is too cute. I really don't know how you do it with the "not knowing" the baby's sex. I am way too impatient. Girl, you are so very brave;) I can't wait to meet this little one.

That is too funny about "facin down". That sounds like something my husband would say! And that closet is too cute filled with all those little outfits. I have already started buying clothes for my little one--the girl stuff is just so cute that I can't help myself!

This was soooo funny! You have a lovely blog- we like a lot of the same things. I'm from Australia and I think I found you through Mississippi Girl. I can't wait to see if you have a boy or girl. We were blessed with twin boys 4 months ago.

How exciting!
Are you all finished with the big girl room????

It all looks great! You need to come up here and work on my closets before you get out of this nesting stage...oh wait...it's not a stage. I forget that you are always doing projects. I told Derrick about Mike and he didn't think it was that funny. I think he really wanted to know if the baby was in fact "a-facin" down. Bless his heart.

We have a rat's nest every morning, too, and that is exactly what I call it!!! That made me laugh. Thanks for the tips on the iron on letters. I can iron...so sure I can do that! ha! I would love to learn to sew though! Did you teach yourself?
