Life's a Beach
Today, I took Amelia over to a local summer spot...Sun Valley Beach. It's a giant pool with sand all around and slides and more in the pool. Amelia had so much fun playing in the sand, sun, and sea (pool). I don't think I got a single picture of her face the entire time...she was just...too....busy!
Mama was on constant "Sand To Mouth" patrol because handfuls of sand were getting shovelled in her mouth. Oh my!
Amelia playing with her friend Leslie...
One of the nice things about this place is you can bring your own food. So I packed us up a lunch and, of course, hauled it in my picnic basket. (I'm always looking for a reason to take it with me somewhere!)
This is the sunscreen I am using for now. I really wanted to order the California Baby sunscreen, but it is on backorder and will not be here in time for our vacation. I will probably still order some. I want something that is organic and chemical-free. This particular sunscreen did a fine job (we were only out for just over an hour), and it smelled really good. But I'm not sure about its ingredients yet. Has anyone had experience with this kind or the California Baby sunscreen or any other kind of baby sunscreen that is chemical-free?

I love your blog and your design style. I have similar vintage taste - my husband likes to joke that it's "tasteful new uses for old stuff." I use Burt's Bees chemical free SPF 30 on my 19 month old son. He has extremely sensitive skin and this doesn't seem to irritate him or exacerbate any summer heat rashes. I'm also an RN - I work in bone marrow transplant and work two nights a week to focus on my family. I also feel so blessed to have this career and the flexibility that goes along with it.

First, you have the greatest decorating sense, I love everything you have! I am from Powder Springs (graduated from McEachern) so it brought back so many memories of Sun Valley even though I know reside in Santa Monica!

Oh, my - how cute she is digging in the sand. How do they keep the sand out of the pool? Can't believe you didn't take us there last summer. I'll have to try that place out.
Love,

That beach looks like the coolest place, Katie! I love how Amelia is always accessorized with her bow. :o)
We were using the CA Baby kind 'til we ran out and now have the Burt's Bees. I loooooove it. Grace has pretty sensitive skin and neither irritated her. I got the CA Baby at our local Target.
P.S. I have a very similar swimsuit cover-up in tan!

Wow, what a fun place! You Southern girls have so many neat places to take the little ones...I've never seen a beach/pool combo before.

What a fantastic idea.... a pool with sand! We don't have anything like that around here that I know of. Brilliant! Amelia looks very focused and busy in that sand as would any happy one year old! I can't wait to get my little one out in the pool but I worry about her skin. I'll have to be on the lookout for that brand you mentioned.

I enjoy visiting your blog from time to time! Lovely! Your little sweetie is growing so quickly! I like the beach/pool idea - very fun! I wish we had one close by! We take our children to my parents in Canada each summer to swim in two big lakes and play at the beach - they love sand - even at 7 and 10! They both wear 'rash guards' from Land's End to cover their shoulders since we are often out for 4-5 hours. On the rest of their skin we use sunscreen and just keep applying.
Have you tried the Kiss My Face sun screen? It is chemical free and very effective on our children and ourselves. I am a big fan of Kiss My Face since the products are mostly natural without being over priced. I order from the website if I can't find it at our local store - shipping is fast and they often have specials.
I read years ago that the 'baby' versions of sunscreen contain the same ingredients as regular sunscreen, and recently I read the same thing again in Nutrition Action magazine, so we don't need to pay more for 'baby'.

Berts Bee has a chemical free with hemp seed oil - spf 30. Its not specifically for babies but I used in on my 9 month old this weekend.
