Amelia's Easter Basket

P3270836

Since we were in Charlotte on Easter, I didn't get any good pictures of Amelia with her Easter basket.  So I took her out yesterday for some.

I had found this basket at a local antique shop, and when I saw it, I knew it was right.  Doesn't it just look like an Easter basket...with that big rounded handle and green paint?  Inside, the Easter Bunny brought her a book titled The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes, four little knitted bunnies (not knitted by me, unfortunately!), a vintage bunny glass, and some eggs filled with fruit treats!  Oh, and that little chenille chickie with the feather tufts that she immediately grabbed!

The glass reads:  "B is for bunny, with long, silky ears and a powderpuff tail (or so it appears."  Momma found it a while back at a flea market.  How cute is it!!  I just stuffed a white cloth napkin in it so the print was visible and made two floppy white "ears" to come out of the top of the glass.

Sweet Charlotte (& Pinehurst)

We just got back from being in Charlotte this week.  We had so much fun!  Mike lived in Charlotte while we were dating and engaged, and we thought we were going to live there after we were married.  A few months before the wedding, he took a job in Atlanta.  But we lovvved Charlotte...such a nice, pretty city.  (I love all the crowns on the street signs!)

This is Amelia's new favorite pastime...

(If you notice in the background that we are outside the Kids' ER...it's just because I had to stop by work before we left!)

The next day, Amelia drove some more...

We also spent a couple of nights in Pinehurst here...

The Old Rugged Cross

P3210562_2

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suff'ring and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best,
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

Green Scene

In honor of the newly sprung season of spring (huh?!), Angela at Cottage Magpie is hosting a celebration for the color green.  Here are a few of my favorite green things...

...a hurricane vase filled with dried artichokes (did you know that in some places, artichokes are a symbol for spring?)...

P3200534

...a new bouquet of flowers for the mantle...

P3200493

...some new flowers for the yard from my mother-in-law...

P3200530

...this floral frog that sits in Amelia's room (it's holding two silver salt spoons Mike gave to me a couple of years ago at Christmas and a tiny dried rosebud from one of my rose bushes)...

P3200548

...this kinda sad looking violet that I am trying to nurse back to health...

P3200547

...this plant (I have no idea what it is, do you?) that I have nestled inside a, yup, chamberpot (this is in the master bathroom on a dresser in front of a big window...now, I consider myself an old-fashioned sort of girl, but I much prefer to use a chamberpot like this as opposed to its original, intended purpose!)...

P1160411

...this little trumpet rattle (I used to play the trumpet)...

P3200551

...this sweet little dress I wore when I was a year old (I am also going to put Amelia in it for her one-year pictures!)...

P3200550

...some new green toile shams I have for the soon-to-be-green guest room...

P3200554

...a green transferware tureen also for the guest room...

P3200557

Happy and blessed spring to all y'all out there!

I Won, I Won!!

P3190484

A couple of weeks ago, the truly fabulous Ruthann at Warm Pie, Happy Home had a giveaway for some cookbooks.  And I won!!  The giveaway was for two cookbooks, but she surprised me with two more books that SHE co-authored with her sister-in-law.  I am so excited!!  Her blog is one of my favorites, because, not only does she have a beautiful home, but also because she is such an inspiring wife, mother, and homemaker.

Now, on to my winnings...  The first cookbook is titled "Sweety Pies" and is full of recipes I am dying to try, like Aunt Marjell's Strawberry Handpies, Sister Baby's Buttermilk Pie, Bernice Brock's Old-Fashioned Grits Pie, and a whole chapter on meringue pies.  It's also full of great stories, too, which is perfect...because I love to read cookbooks!

P3190489

The second cookbook is Dolly's Dixie Fixin's from, of course, Dolly Parton.  I will post after I make her Green Tomato Cake, Grits on a Shingle, and her Daddy's Left-Handed Gravy.  Have I ever mentioned that Dolly Parton is one of my most favorite people ever?  She is definitely on my "Who would you invite to your dinner party?" list.

Now, the two other surprise books Ruthann sent are all about making wonderful memories with your family.

P3190485

In one of the books, a quote from Henry Van Dyke jumped out at me that I wanted to share:

"One truly affectionate soul in a family will exert a sweetening and harmonizing influence upon all its members."

Isn't that a good thought of what we all want to be within our homes and families?

The last book is a tiny little thing that contains 101 ways for making some family memories...one of my favorites so far:

"#67 - Pajama Ride!  After you have just tucked your kids into bed, burst into their room and yell, "Pajama ride!"  Put their coats on, get in the car, and go out for ice cream cones.  The kids will remember this surprise forever!"

Thank you, Ruthann, for the books AND for creating such a wonderful place for us to visit and...have pie!

Here Chickie, Chickie...

P3200535

The other day, I lined up these sweet chirpy chicks on a table in Amelia's room, making a mental note that I would need to move them when I was done "playing" so that she couldn't eat one.  (I know, they are small and have beady eyes, and pipe-cleaner wings...very dangerous for children...)  Well, I forgot....and I turn around to see Amelia sitting oh-so quietly in front of these little fellas.  I fished one out of her mouth.  Fortunately, she didn't swallow him, and fortunately, I think the little chick is going to make it.  He just needs some recovery time...

P3200545

Bless his little pea-pickin' heart!

Just so y'all know, I moved them to the safety of a shelf on the wall.

For St. Patrick's Day

P3170545

When you find a four-leaf clover,
look and you will see
each leaf stands for a special gift
God gave to you and me.

He gives us HOPE in knowing
we will be with Him one day.
When He returns and calls to us,
with Him, we'll fly away.

With FAITH we wait upon our Lord
as He leads us through our days,
and teaches us and blesses us
in His own special ways.

So with gladsome JOY we celebrate
the One who is our King!
Allelujah to the Lamb of God!
His praises we shall sing!

And, as the Bible tells us,
Of these, LOVE is the greatest.
We thank you, Heavenly Father,
for we are truly blessed!

The little pillow in the picture is actually the ring pillow we used at our wedding.  Momma helped me to make it with real four-leaf clovers that had been dried.  Then, a friend stitched the four words "faith, hope, joy, and love" in each corner.

Enjoy your day, y'all!

A New Basket

A couple of days ago, we got a new big basket.  Amelia wanted to show it to you.

P3110531_2

What ever am I going to put in this one?  Hmmm...
Oh, yeah!

P3110549

I'm also working on her Easter basket (...you know, for the Easter Bunny...), and I'll post pictures of it when it is done!

Egg-cellent

P3100514_2

This afternoon, I made this pair of moss-covered eggs for my Easter decorating.  When I saw a set in one of my catalogs for $80, I knew they could be made for much less.  So, with a couple of styrofoam egg forms, a package of sheet moss, some glue, and ribbon, I made these in all of fifteen minutes!
